Ramadan is the ninth month of the lunar Islamic (Hijjah) calendar.
It lasts 29 or 30 days according to the visual sightings
of the crescent. It is Muslims' month of fasting,
in which Muslims refrain from dawn until sunset from eating
and drinking, as well as, generally sinful speech
and behavior. Ramadan is a time of spiritual
reflection and worship. At sunset, Muslims hasten for the fast-breaking meal known as Iftar.
They can eat and drink all night till dawn.
Each day before dawn, Muslims observe a pre-fast meal called Suhoor. At dawn they start fasting.
Jeddah at the western coast of Saudi Arabia has its
distinguished character in Ramadan.

Sultan Ahmet Mosque or The Blue Mosque

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Iiwnnyo2qp0/UdfaJDxK7MI/AAAAAAAAiVA/XHkcJKZ_H-I/s1600/image019-780524.jpg

Just as Istanbul straddles Europe and Asia fusing the ancient
and the modern, it also balances traditional and
contemporary festivities during the blessed month of Ramadan. Preparations for the month start weeks
in advance with welcoming light bulbs above
main mosques minarets.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DCIQ4w3ERYQ/UdfaJt8dkgI/AAAAAAAAiVM/59bJT9E9OKI/s1600/image014-782008.jpg

The main Ramadan festivities are centered around the magnificent Sultan Ahmet Mosque (The Blue Mosque).
The mosque gardens turn into impromptu picnic areas with families coming from afar to spend the day.
The mosque surrounding host mini restaurants opened
during the month of Ramadan, special shows and traditional Ottoman theatrical shows.

Iftar menus start with a soup or an appetizer platter called
"Iftariye" which consists of dates, olives, cheese, pastırma, sujuk,
Turkish Pide bread (which is specially baked in Ramadan)
and various pastries called "börek".
The main course consists of various Turkish foods.
The famous dessert called "güllaç".

More than 2.2 billion Muslims around the globe started few days ago the fasting month of Ramadan; the ninth month of the lunar

speech and behavior. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection and worship. At sunset, Muslims hasten for the fast-breaking meal
known as Iftar. They can eat and drink all night
till dawn. Before dawn, Muslims observe a pre-fast meal
called Suhoor. At dawn they start fasting.

During Ramadan many Islamic cities and towns
