Ann approached the house timidly. Her first instinct was to run back to the safety of the tree house where Neve and Drew were waiting for her. 3But this was a dare for her membership test, and that meant serious business
The house has been abandoned for over a hundred years," Ann remembered Neve telling her.
"The McWilliams family just picked up and left. People said there was something strange about the way it all happened. Since then, no one has set foot in the house," Drew had explained.
8Ann held her breath and placed one foot on the paint-chipped steps of the front porch. Every step closer to the front door made her heart pound faster and louder. Her cold, sweaty hand clenched and twisted the knob. The door swung open with unexpected ease. "Maybe it was the wind," Ann tried to reason.
