Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) addressed us and said: O people, Allah made Hajj obligatory for you; so perform Hajj. Thereupon a person asked: Messenger of Allah, (is it to be performed) every year? He (the Holy Prophet) kept silent, and he repeated (these words) thrice, whereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: If I were to say "yes", it would become obligatory (for you to perform it every year) and you would not be able to do it. Then he said: Just abide by my commandments, for those who were before you were destroyed because of excessive questioning, and their opposition to their Messengers. So when I command you to do anything, do of it as much as you possibly can, and when I forbid you to do anything, then abandon it.

روى أبو هريرة رضي الله عنه قائلا: خطبنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ((أيها الناس قد فرض عليكم الحج فحجوا)) فقال رجل أكل عام يا رسول الله فسكت حتى قالها ثلاثا فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: ((لو قلت نعم لوجبت ولما استطعتم)) ثم قال ((ذروني ما تركتكم فإنما هلك من كان قبلكم كثرة سؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم وإذا أمرتم بشئ فأتوا منه ما استطعتم وإذا نهيتكم عن شيء فدعوه)) ورواه مسلم

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (May Allah be pleased with him) sent me during Hajj before the Farewell Pilgrimage for which Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) had appointed him an Amir, among a group of people whom he had ordered to make announcement to the people on the Day of Nahr: "After this year no polytheist may perform the Pilgrimage and no naked person may circumambulate the House."

أمر الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم أبا بكر أن يحج بالناس في تلك السنة وبعث معه علياً رضي الله عنه وأمره أن يقرأ على الناس سورة براءة للبراءة من المشركين وأمره أن ينادي في الناس فقال علي يوم النحر: {يا أيها الناس لا يدخل الجنة كافر، ولا يحج بعد العام مشرك، ولا يطوف بالبيت عريان، ومن كان له عند رسول الله عهد فهو إلى مدته}.

Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them, reported:
I heard Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) delivering a sermon and making this observation: "No person should be alone with a woman except when there is a Mahram with her, and the woman should not undertake a journey except with a Mahram". A person stood up and said: Allah's Messenger, my wife has set out for pilgrimage, whereas I am enlisted to fight in such and such battle, whereupon he said: "You go and perform Hajj with your wife."

عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنهما قال : قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : ( لا تسافر المرأة إلا مع ذي محرم ، ولا يدخل عليها رجل إلا ومعها محرم ، فقال رجل : يا رسول الله ، إني أريد أن أخرج في جيش كذا وكذا وامرأتي تريد الحج ، فقال : اخرج معها ) رواه البخاري ومسلم .
