Morphology
Morphology is a field of linguistics studies the structure and content of word forms in a language. It studies how words are put together from their smaller meaningful parts and the rules governing this process. These meaningful parts are called morphemes
A morpheme is the smallest meaningful part in a word of a language
In English language for instance; the two morphemes car and the plural –s are put together to form the word cars. Morphology studies how a word like ( cars ) is put together from its morphemes ( car and the plural –s ) and the rules governing this process
Note: car is a morpheme in the word cars. However, car is a word has one morpheme which is car . This means some words consist of one morpheme such as car, book , pen , and so on.Other words are made up of two or more morphemes such as frighteningly is built of four morphemes: fright, which is a noun; en, which converts the noun to a verb ; ing, which converts it to an adjective; and ly, which converts it to an adverb
Thus, we can say morphology is the study of words from their morphemes in a language
