A rich man invited a famous painter to paint a portrait of him, but when the painting was finished he refused to pay the $... commission that he had promised at the start. The reason for his refusal, he said, was that ' the portrait is not me at all'.

Later the painter exhibited the portrait and entitled it 'Thief'. The rich man protested furiously when he found out

'It is not a portrait of you at all' the painter explained calmly, you said so'
