Figurative Language :
1. Alliteration : the repetition of close initial consonants in words .
2. Simile : A comparison between two dissimilar things using like , as , resembles, than , .. etc. ( Explicit comparison ) .
E.g. Youth , beautiful , freshness of the red rose .
3. Metaphor : A comparison between two dissimilar things without using like, as , ….etc . ( Implicit comparison).
E.g.
Sea = Clothes
Mountains = Houses.
4.Metonymy : When something very closely associated with a thing is used to stand for thing itself .
E.g.
Crown = Queen
The white house = president
5. Personification :
When something non-human ( abstraction,animal,thing)
is given human qualities.
E.g.
Wept – lowered – muttering – thunder.
* Symbol :
Any object, person , place , action , that has a meaning in itself and that also stands for something larger than itself.
E.g.
Spring = youth
Red rose = love
Skull = death
Black color = Sorrow
* Allegory :
A tale in verse or in prose in which characters, action, or sittings represent abstract idea or moral qualities.
* Assonance :
The repetition of similar vowel sounds .
* Couplet : Two consecutive lines of verse that rhyme .
* Stanza : A grouping of verse lines often setoff by a space in the printed text .
* Triple : A stanza of three lines .
* Quatrain : A stanza of four lines.
