saved by the bell
Definition: To be rescued, spared at the last possible moment before having to face terrible consequences
Example: 1) I thought I would have to move out of my apartment because the rent was too high, but I was saved by the bell when I found a new job
Etymology: Probably derived from boxing, where a bell would signal the start and end of each round, possibly a chance for a fighter to recover his breath
