السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Unit: 5 Lesson: 4

I am afraid I am late for you but not for everyone.

Used to + infinitive

What does "USED TO + V" describe?

It describes habits and repeated actions that took place over a period of time in the past

i.e.

This pattern is used when you talk about something which…

=> "started" and "finished" in the past

=> happened "frequently" or "continuously"

BE CAREFUL!

=> it is not usually used in questions or negative sentences.

E.g. Saudi Arabia used to be a poor country.

E.g. Saudi people used to live in tents and traditional houses.

E.g. They used to travel on camels and horses.

E.g. They used to get water from wells.

SO
If something happened just once, do not use "used to" to describe it.

E.g. Hamad retired last year.

E.g. We visited our uncle two days ago.

و السلام
