Science Section 2nd Semester 2004/2005

Reading:
• Students are given a reading passage of about 550-600 words to test their abilities in using the various reading skills: skimming, scanning and reading for detail. The questions will include the following types:
A- Circle the main idea of the passage.
B- Write the number of the paragraph next to the correct topic. An example is given as a guide.
C- Read and tick (√ ) or ( X )
D- From the passage, complete the following table.
E- Read the passage, then circle the right answer.
F- Read the passage, then answer the questions.
G- Find words from the passage that mean the same as the following.
H- Answer the following question.
Writing:
A- Students are asked to write ( about 80 to 90 words ) on ONLY ONE of two book oriented topics. Guidance is given in note form.
N.B. “Book oriented topics” doesn’t mean topics directly taken from the textbook topics. In other words, they are relevant to the topics students studied throughout the second semester.
B- Students are asked to write ( about 80 to 90 words ) on ONLY ONE of two free writing topics. Guidance is given in note form.
Vocabulary:
• Students are given two “recognition” exercises and three “production” ones. These exercises will carry the following headings:
A- Circle the correct word from a, b, or c.
B- Fill in the spaces with suitable words from the box.
C- Write the opposites of the following words.
D- Fill in the spaces with suitable words of your own.
E- Write words that mean the same as the following.
Grammar:
• Students are given two “recognition” exercises and two other “production” ones. These exercises will come under the following rubrics:
A- Circle the correct answer from a, b, or c.
B- Fill in the blanks with words from the box.
C- Correct the verbs in brackets.
D- Do as shown in brackets.
Translation:
• Students are asked to translate a whole paragraph from English into good Arabic. Cohesion and accuracy have to be taken into consideration.
• Students are given three separate sentences to translate from Arabic into correct English.
Teachers are kindly requested to inform their students of the various types of exercises they will come across in their final examination and to provide them with sufficient training based on these types of exercises.
