chairs for that obligatory cocktail.

NOTE COMPULSORY, MANDATORY OR OBLIGATORY?

Compulsory is used especially in the contexts of education, business and employment: compulsory education/schooling/reading/subjects ◇ compulsory insurance/liquidation/purchase/redundancy/retirement . Mandatory is used especially in the context of the law: a mandatory sentence/penalty/duty/requirement . Obligatory is often used to talk about rules and laws relating to safety, for example in sport or the workplace: Recently safety regulations have made it obligatory for all competitors to wear fist protectors.
