Salam
How are u all!?
Hope u're OK :)
Today, I explained the grammar lesson in U 2..
At the beginning, I was hesititing cuz the rule is not too clear, & students may not understand the relative clause but! I don't know how did I explained it in a way that they get enjoyed & understood it easily!!
At the end of the period, they told me: "we like it, it's delicious!!"
mmmm, I'll start explaining now ^^
On the board, I wrote some sentences:
Asma who is the tallest girl is my sister.
The car which is blue is my father's.
King Fahd University which is in Dhahran is the smallest university.
Riyadh which is in the centre of Saudi Arabia is the capital of S.A.
There is no gril who has three eyes.
I underlined [who & which] in the sentences & asked: what are they?
elicit: they are wh- questions..
I said: No!, are these questions or sentences?
they replied: No, sentences...
I completed: so they are not wh- questions! they are relative pronouns..
wrote them on the board and said: in English there are 3 relatvie pronouns
that, who, which..
now look at the sentences again and tell me..
Is there one or two information about Asma?
they said: two.
I said: great! what are they?
elicit them, underlined them..
I did the same for other setences..
The last one, they said it's one..
:)
mmm, I completed..
in the sentences, there are two information, we can put one of them between two commas!
we should look for the beginning of the relative clause & the end!
Asma, who is the tallest girl, is my sister.
I asked them about the other sentences, and they answered correctly direclty!!
the last one, they said we cann't put commas cuz there is only one information :)
Actually, they fought & shouted & cried just to answer ^^
mmmm, I know really that the word one & two information is incorrect but it was the most simple word for them :)
I'll come back soon to complete the rest of the lesson :)
Allah protect u all..
Be fine..
