love song poem

Ted Hughes

Lovesong

The poem has an animal-like intensity that leaves the intellect in abeyance –except in its expression!
It opens with a single-line summary, and the rest is all about Hughes’ ability to enter the woman’s mind and body, and her’s his.
Here Hughes draws on all his verbal ability to match his gift of empathy, as a lover and a poet.
The result, with Auden’s ‘Lay your sleeping head my love’ and Frost’s ‘Silken Tent’, is one of the unparalleled love poems of the twentieth century.

The graphic interplay of sex, love, comedy and violence is an English tradition that runs from Shakespeare to Morrissey. Hughes mines both the light and dark of love, finding menace in the most simple acts ('His kisses sucked out her whole past') and unearths humour amidst the carnage ('lopped melon') . For me, the poem's greatest strength is the sense of movement you feel as you read. Passage through the poem mirrors the passage through a relationship: from the passionate kisses of youth, the lovers are chewed up and spat out into a shared double bed, wearing each others' faces, and probably matching pajamas. To misquote John Lennon, love is something that happens when you're busy making other plans'. Or as Doctorow writes elsewhere, 'the sense is of running downhill too fast'.

think the poem is about how despite how much people love each other they could begin to smother one another and anger, or keep things from each other. At the end of the poem it shows that even though lovers get in each other's way that does not mean love completely ends. That no matter how monstrous someone becomes it would be hard to call it quits and stop loving them hence the line, "but love is hard to stop."

5.shed no tear poem
by john keats

Shed No Tear

Shed No Tea- oh, shed no tear !

The flower will bloom another year ;

Weep no more – oh , weep no more !

Young buds sleep in the root’s white core .

Dry your eyes – oh , dry your eyes !

For I was taught in Paradise-

To ease my breast of melodies-

Shed no tear .

Overhead, look overhead

Mong the blossoms white and red

Look up , look up –I flutter now

On this flush pomegranate bough.

See me – tis this silvery bill.

Ever cures the good man’ s ill

Shed No Tea- oh, shed no tear !

The flower will bloom another year ;

Adieu , adieu – I fly , adieu ,

I vanish in the heavens ‘blue .

.Adieu , adieu

Ask Me No More

Author:
Thomas Carew

The poet is telling his lover that she is the resting-place and source of all the beautiful things he lists.
The repetition of "Ask me no more" is very effective in giving emphasis and form to the allegories of the poem.
