Dear brothers and sisters,

Assalamu alykum

I've been advised to target this website where co-operative people are likely to be found.
I'm an English language teacher and I will start my PhD study this coming October 2010 in the UK. I mentioned in the title of this message that your help is needed and really it is. Actually, for my PhD study I will need to collect data to be examined. Anyway, I might spare the rest of details to ladies/gentlemen who generously will be interested in taking part and provide the needed help.

To summarise, if you believe that you can SPEAK a good English , please don't hesitate to contact me and all information, details, and evidences will be clearly explained. In addition, your participation will be explained to you clearly and it will be a 100% anonymous.
Please, my time is really pressing and your help really matters alot.

N.B. Both genders are welcomed to take part and they are of the same value.

All the best,

ACME

Thanks for your initiations. I will try to explain the kind of help I will need. My supervisor asked me to start collecting data before arriving to the UK. I'm targeting Saudi English language speakers in my study. I need to collect as many casual conversations as possible
the form of the conversation will be explained to you when your time allows.
Kind regards,

How can I send on the private?

Thanksinadvance

Thanks for your swift reply. I wrote in my PhD proposal that my data will be conversations done by saudi English language speakers. I think that finding male participants is easy but I don't know about the female, is it as easy as male or not?
I have to have both genders included to get my data balanced.
Conversations will be simply a normal chat between two or more about any topic they assign to speak about. These conversations should be recorded to be then transcribed by me or by any people I choose to help.

All the best and my appreciations
N.B. I can't send on the private, why is that?

Hi again brother . As you said its easy to find male participants but I am not sure about females . So tell me is that all or there is something beside recording conversations?

About the private messages you may not be able to send but after reaching amount of posts :)

Good luck .

I really can understand the trouble collecting the data. So, My advice to you since you are still in KSA, collect your data from University students or teachers of English. I mean literally going to English Department to the nearest University where you live.
If you are a man, i do not think you would find such a trouble, as tings in ksa are easier for men lol
I'm an MA student, I'm collecting my data at the moment and I hate all the process because I've done it here in UK.

Anyway, Good luck with your study

Thank you very much for the advise. I did my MA last Sept at One of the decent UK Universities. When data collection stage came, I had to travel all my way back to Saudi to collect it. It was really tiring and (a bit boring). However, for me now, the idea you've suggested to me wasn't absent but not exactly the kind of data I'm looking for what me and my supervisor have agreed upon. Anyway, I know that you are immersed into your job and (busy person can't be busied) if my expression is right.
I'm going to do my PhD in applied linguistics and I'm not sure if you can help me please. It's all about sending me key articles/references in applied linguistics methodologies (as books wont be easily found here in Saudi nor can be uploaded)to read as my supervisor has advised me to do as many readings as possible before I should see him this month the 26th.

Many many many thanks and best ever wishes to you and I hope you finish your study successfully and come back to Saudi safely.

Thanks alot my dear Pink-pen for what you're going to do. However, it's not that difficult to know about key references in applied linguistics discipline but rather where to get them
from!!!I'm not sure if I can find them available in bookstores here in Saudi. Actually, it's a matter of two months only and I should be in the UK to start my study but if you have articles/references in a PDF format to send to me, I will be more than happy. And in return, I can provide you with many books (PDF)as many as 40 or so.
Kind regards,
