Maria Eva Duarte was born in a small town in Argentina on 17 May 1919. Her family was very poor, and she wante to become rich and famous, so she went to live in Buenos Aires. Here she found work as an actress. In a short time she knew all the important people in the capital. When she met Juan peron, he fell in love with her and soon they got married. she helped him in his career, and he was President in 1946. Many poor Argentinians loved Eva Peron - they called her Evita. By now she became one of the richest and most powerful women in the world. she died of cancer on 26 July 1952, at the age of thirty-three.
