قصيدتين لإعطاء الطلاب فكرة عن الشعر الإنجليزي
William Shakespeare
O! Never Say that I was false of heart, A
Though absence seemed my flame to qualify. B
As easy might I from myself depart A
As from my soul, which in thy breast doth lie: B
That is my home of love; if I have ranged, C
Like him that travels, I return again, D
Just to the time, not with the time exchanged, C
So that myself bring water for my stain. D
Never believe, though in my nature regained E
All frailties that besiege all kinds of blood, F
That it could so preposterously be stained, E
To leave for nothing all thy sum of good; F
For nothing this wide universe I call, G
Save thou, my rose; in it thou art my all. G
though برغم ذلك qualify يقيد doth does
ranged تجول absence غياب thy ملكك
besiege يطوق stain بقعة \ وصمة frailties زلات
art are يكون preposterously محال thou (you) أنت
regained يسترد
Ben Jonson
Though I am young and cannot tell
Either what Death or Love is well,
Yet I have heard they both bear darts,
And both do aim at human hearts;
And then again I have been told
Love wounds with heat, as Death with cold;
So that I fear they do but bring
Extremes to touch, and mean one thing.
As in a ruin, we it call
One thing to be blown up or fall;
Or to our end like way may have,
By a flash of lightning or a wave:
So Love's inflamed shaft or brand
May kill as soon as Death 's cold hand;
Except Love's fires the virtue have
To fright the frost out of the grave.
