Here is the passage . It is short and simple

***************************

Because words can break silence, and thus remove tension,
we often draw on them for this reason and not mainly for
what they mean. When two people are introduced, one says,
"How do you do?" Now this is not really a question, despite
its apparent meaning, and the other person will reply not,
'Very well thank you,1 but 'How do you do?' This is the
conversational formula. The purpose of the phrase 'How do
you do?' is not to communicate meaning but to break the
tension which would result from silence.

Thanks alot dear SirHasan

With all do respect

Here are two points I want to discuss if you dont mind

according to Reading 1 and 2

May you plz explain how could ( B ) be the correct answer for (1) although it was for using words not questions ??

and for ( 2 ) there is a say in the English Grammer that every article ends with a question mark should be a question despite its use , and I add : that start with a wh question tool, except for these that end with (!) e.g. what a pity ! 0
the question was in the term of meaning not of use ..0

Am I wrong sir! if so ; need u to correct me again..0
coz I consider me still a student for the English language..

Alot of thanks again

When we answer the comprehension questions , we should refer to the passage we have
If you go back to the first three lines of the passage , you will see why B is the correct
answer . I think what you did is that you depended on the general idea that all of us
have ... which is that words are used to convey meaning and send message . But the question is about a certain information in a certain passage . Look at the answer

The purpose of the phrase 'How do
you do?' is not to communicate meaning but to break the
tension which would result from silence

and for ( 2 ) there is a say in the English Grammer that every article ends with a question mark should be a question despite its use , and I add : that start with a wh question tool, except for these that end with (!) e.g. what a pity ! 0
the question was in the term of meaning not of use ..0

Also here , leave the previous knowledge aside because sometimes it may lead someone astray
Although How do you do ? ends with a question mark it is not a question at all and the proof about that is its answer is the same phrase because you can not answer a question with a question . The green colour in the passage will show why B is the correct answer .

My Regards To You
