.
He was a rat, and she was a rat,

And down in one hole they did dwell.

And each was as black as a witch's hat,

And they loved one another well.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^

He had a tail, and she had a tail

Both long and curling and fine.

And each said, "My love's tail is the finest tail

In the world, excepting mine!"

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

He smelt the cheese, and she smelt the cheese

And they both pronounced it good;

And both remarked it would greatly add

To the charm of their daily food.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

So he ventured out and she ventured out

And I saw them go with pain.

But what them befell I never can tell,

For they never came back again.

I did not see this poem before .It is an old one isn't.
At the beginning I was enjoying reading the poem, I was admiring their love, their simple way of living (I know they are rats but they act as humans) they treated each other equally, they appreciated what they have
But I was shocked at the end coz that the way he/ and she in our real life treated each other. when they upset of something, they simply give up on each other .
Maybe I did not understand the poem , maybe I did not read what is between the lines but that what I felt
Thank you Sir Acme
