Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanx for all

We wake up every morning, to the same roof, same room,
drink the same kind of coffee, go to the same college,
same school, same job, with our complete health
then complain about how boring our life is.
They wake up every morning, to the same roof,
same gray hospital room, get the same shots,
same medicine, they can't go outside
so they look from their windows,
see you walking so miserable,
and they look around them and smile
because they survived one more day..
So if you're bored next time,
and complaining about how boring life is,
stop a second and think about them,
all those people fighting death, trying new treatment,
hoping that one day they can live your "boring" life.
Face your day with a smile, try to give hope
and pray for them ,try to work hard enough
to live the best day just like it's the last one..

This is an extract from Cast Up By The Sea ,a book which I recently came across in our school library
I greatly admire the language of description used here . They are so magical leaving
no details unprovided. The scene will be drawn in your mind from the first sentence
and each new sentence will add something new to that picture .Some of the words are difficult to understand but I think they are important to know . Enjoy reading
It was a sultry night in August. The day had been oppressive
it was a dead calm upon the sea, and, as the sun had sunk, a yellowish glare of haze had obscured the horizon, while long thin streaks of fleecy clouds, tinged with vermilion with the sun’s last rays, turned ominously black when the bright light faded. The swallows had been flying so low as to merely skim the ground, and the sea-gulls had been screaming in a wild manner as they followed the shoals of porpoises that chased the mackerel at the entrance of the bay. For some weeks no rain had fallen, and unusual heat had pearched the country . Such was the sunset of the 19th of August , 1971 : the sea and the atmosphere were so
mingled together that, in the dull twilight, nothing could be distinguished on the surface; but an unnatural stillness pervaded the darkening scene.
At this time a strange figure sat upon the low garden- wall that overlooked the sea, and, apparently motionless, strove to pierce the mysterious haze that shrouded the horizon. At the first sight it would have been difficult to determine the sex, but a closer examination showed it to be a female. She sat at that giddy height crouched and balanced upon the unstable wall, with her knees close to her thin and scantily-beairded chin while, to steady her position, she tightly clutched her ankles with her long and wiry hands. She wore neither shoes nor stockings..

A Little Supper Joke
An elderly gentleman of 85 feared his wife was getting hard of hearing. So one day he called her doctor to make an appointment to have her hearing checked. The Doctor made an appointment for a hearing test in two weeks, and meanwhile there's a simple informal test the husband could do to give the doctor some idea of the state of her problem.
"Here's what you do," said the doctor, "start out about 40 feet away from her, and in a normal conversational speaking tone see if she hears you. If not, go to 30 feet, then 20 feet, and so on until you get a response."
That evening, the wife is in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he's in the living room. He says to himself, "I'm about 40 feet away, let's see what happens."
Then in a normal tone he asks, "Honey, what's for supper?" No response.
So the husband moved to the other end of the room, about 30 feet from his wife and repeats, "Honey, what's for supper?" Still, no response.
Next he moves into the dining room where he is about 20 feet from his wife and asks, "Honey, what's for supper?" Again he gets no response.
So he walks up to the kitchen door, only 10 feet away. "Honey, what's for supper?" Again there is no response.
So he walks right up behind her. "Honey, what's for supper?"

A little girl was going to a party and her
mother told her to be a good girl and to
remember, when she was leaving, to thank
her hostess.
When she arrived home, the mother
asked her if she thanked her hostess and the
little girl replied: 'No, the girl in front of me
did and the lady said "Don't mention it" - so
I didn't.'

THE GENERATION GAP
The world is undergoing a rapid change. That is, views,
opinions, fashion, and even traditions are changing rapidly.
The old cannot adapt themselves to these changes easily.
They always talk about good old days, and grumble about
the
young, which leads to a generation gap. Parents always
mention the problems of the young. If there is one, then, we
can say that it is the old who create it. Everyone is of the
opinion that the young are, after all, human beings-people
just like their parents. There is only one difference
between
an old man and a young man: the young man has got a
bright
future before, him and the old one has got a lot of experience
behind him.

and darkness shrouded the whole place
Why husbands should not answer
WIFE: 'What would you do if I died? Would you get married again?
HUSBAND: 'Definitely not!
WIFE: 'Why not? Don't you like being married?'
HUSBAND: 'Of course I do.
WIFE: 'Then why wouldn't you remarry?
HUSBAND: 'Okay, okay, I'd get married again.'
WIFE: 'You would?'
HUSBAND: .......?
WIFE: 'Would you live in our house?'
HUSBAND: 'Sure, it's a great house.'
WIFE: 'Would you let her drive my car?'
HUSBAND: 'Probably, it is almost new.'
WIFE: 'Would you replace my pictures with hers?'
HUSBAND: 'That would seem like the proper thing to do..'
WIFE: 'Would you give her my jewelry?'
HUSBAND: 'No, I'm sure she'd want her own.'
WIFE: 'Would she wear my shoes'
HUSBAND: 'No, her size is 6.'
WIFE: -- silence
....... HUSBAND: 'Damn !!

Journey Into Autumn
Coming south, it seemed the train
Travelled faster than my watch.
It was summer in the north.
Cornfields where the wind had lain
Still were waiting to be cut,
Children trailing the afternoon's
Listlessness behind them found
The blackberries still tart. But
Here the fields bear straw-bales strapped
For winter and the stubble burns.
The boys have gone now who lounged
All summer long beside the track.
Diesels pass unwaved. The last
Down drifts from willow-herb to find
A niche for next year's purple
Flowering. Summer here is past.

The story of the Pencil
A boy was watching his grandmother write a letter.
At one point, he asked:
'Are you writing a story about what we've done? Is it a story about me?'
His grandmother stopped writing her letter and said to her grandson:
'I am writing about you, actually, but more important than the words is the Pencil I'm using.
I hope you will be like this Pencil when you grow up.'
Intrigued, the boy looked at the pencil.
It didn't seem very special.
'but it's just like any other Pencil i've ever seen!'
'that depends on how you look at things.
it has five qualities which,
if you manage to hang on to them,
will make you a person who is always at peace
with the world.
'first quality: you are capable of great things,
but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps - this is your inner self!!
you are the only one who has control!
'second quality: now and then,
I have to stop writing and use a sharpener. That makes the Pencil suffer a little, but afterwards,
he's much sharper. So you, too,
must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows,
because they will make you a better person.
'third quality: the Pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes.
This means that correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing; it helps to keep us
on the road to justice.
'fourth quality: what really matters in a Pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite inside.
so always pay attention to what is happening inside you.
'finally, the pencil's fifth quality:
it always leaves a mark. In just the same way,
you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that and in your every day action
