I thought the earth remembered me,
she took me back so tenderly,
arranging her dark skirts,
her pockets full of lichens and seeds.
I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed,
nothing between me and the white fire of the stars
but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths
among the branches of the perfect trees.
All night I heard the small kingdoms
breathing around me, the insects,
and the birds who do their work in the darkness.
All night I rose and fell, as if in water,
grappling with a luminous doom. By morning
I had vanished at least a dozen times
into something better.

[GRADE="C0C0C0 2E8B57 DC143C 2E8B57 C0C0C0"]More About the Poet[/GRADE]
Oliver’s poetry is grounded in memories of Ohio and her adopted home of New
England. Influenced by both Whitman and Thoreau, she is known for her keen
observances of the natural world. Her poems are filled with imagery from her
daily walks near her home in Provincetown, Massachusetts: shore birds, water
snakes, the phases of the moon and humpback whales. Maxine Kumin calls
Oliver "a patroller of wetlands in the same way that Thoreau was an inspector
of snowstorms" and "an indefatigable guide to the natural world." Oliver has
also been compared to Emily Dickinson, with whom she shares an affinity for
solitude and interior monologues. Her poetry combines dark introspection with
joyous release. Although she has been criticized for writing poetry that
assumes a dangerously close relationship of women with nature, she finds only
the self is only strengthened through an immersion with nature. As her
creativity is stirred by nature, Oliver is an avid walker, pursuing inspiration on
foot. For Oliver, walking is part of the poetic process. Oliver is also known for
her unadorned language and accessible themes.

thank you . a lovely poem really, sis.
who doesn't like to enjoy the marvellous scene of nature and live with it. Mary Oliver is a poet who showed her geniusity in portraying nature although few know her in our time. i think that she didn't receive the reputation and fame other poets and authors like Wordsworth did. It is a great thing to manipulate images from our surroundings because they will certainly be easy to understand and live with.
thank you again. your choices are always fantastic.

Not receiving a reputation doesn't mean that she isn't a good poet
on the contrary she has her own way to portray her thoughts about nature
I enjoy manipulated texts and pictures though I'm not that much of a good reader
who can grasp what's hidden between the lines
but I'm a good slow learner ^^
thank you again. your choices are always fantastic
and thanks bro for considering my choices that way
and for always enriching them with your comments

Yeah earth is our mother and it's our big embrace
the one which always waiting for us to come running
for her to enjoy our solitude between it's warm arms
to be hugged tightly in away that frees you from life
restraints to fly and enjoy the spaciousness of our souls

First I like the way you're decorating the topic
And for the poem , I like characterizing
...the nature or forest in words like
dark skirts , her pockets , the river bed
and I noticed the rolling features of this poem
.. over the darkness and light … all night and by morning
well I've to read it again , specially verses ,
the more you read it the more you like it
special thanks
