A proposition is :
a sentence expressing something true or false.
A number of philosophers and linguists claim that all definitions of a proposition are too vague to be useful. For them, it is just a misleading concept that should be removed from philosophy and semantics. W.V. Quine maintained that the indeterminacy of translation prevented any meaningful discussion of propositions, and that they should be discarded in favor of sentences. Strawson advocated the use of the term "statement".

A proposition is that part of the meaning of a clause or sentence that is constant, despite changes in such things as the voice or illocutionary force of the clause.
A proposition may be related to other units of its kind through interpropositional relations, such as temporal relations and logical relations.
Discussion
The meaning of the term proposition is extended by some analysts to include the meaning content of units within the clause.
