Anger, Envy & Insults

Near Tokyo lived a great Samurai, now old,
who decided to teach Zen
Buddhism to young people.

One afternoon, a warrior – known for his complete lack of scruples
– arrived there. The young and impatient warrior had never
lost a fight. Hearing of the Samurai’s reputation,
he had come to defeat him,
and increase his fame.
All the students were against the idea,
but the old man accepted the challenge.

All gathered on the town square, and the young man
started insulting the old master.
He threw a few rocks in his direction, spat in his face,
shouted every insult under the sun
– he even insulted his ancestors.
For hours, he did everything to provoke him,
but the old man remained impassive.
At the end of the afternoon, by now feeling exhausted and humiliated,
the impetuous warrior left.
Disappointed by the fact that the master had received
so many insults
and provocations,
the students asked: “How could you bear such indignity?
Why didn’t you use your sword,
even knowing you might lose the fight, instead
of displaying your cowardice in front of us all?”

“If someone comes to you with a gift, and you do not accept it,
who does the gift belong to?” – asked the old Samurai.

“He who tried to deliver it.” – replied one of his disciples.
“The same goes for envy, anger and insults.” – said the master. “When they are not accepted,
they continue to belong to the one who carried them.”

No matter how busy someone is,
if they love you and care they will
find a way to make time for you.
Even the smallest text message
or quickest phone call can say
a thousand words.

Seasons of the Heart

Within us all is the ray of love, the light of day and the dark of night.
We cannot be whole without each one,
with light to fill our night and love to fill our day.

Our night reminds us of the hope in our heart through the impending light of day.
So we may appreciate each day and the promise it brings,
we need also to appreciate our night.

The light of day fills the dawn with hope of new beginnings.
In this moment, fill your soul with the morning light and choose
to be in your heart as sunrise fills the horizon of your life.
No matter the season you face, whether it be rain, cloud or storms.
Create your day from the love in your heart and the light of day
above the clouds.

Storms fill our world daily with rain, lightening and thunder.
So too do storms fill our lives with the dark of night in tow.
Above every storm is daylight, waiting to shine through.
And so is the love in your heart, waiting to shine through the storm of fear.
Allow the storm to lift in your heart as it does in the sky of gloom.
Feel the rain subside with each breath and watch the magic of the rainbow
as it fills the sky of your heart. Observe the light of your heart
as it reaches out into the ether of life, creating colours of love, light and joy.

Have faith in the night knowing that day soon follows,
but rather than see just the dark of night, see the stars shine in the moonlight.
So in the night of day, see the stars shine brightly and within
your night there soon comes day, with crystal blue skies and sunshine.

So too with the seasons, feel them in your heart with the beauty
of night and the light of day. Acknowledge and feel each season,
knowing that with each comes the warm ray of light, the beauty of fall,
the perfection of snow and the colour of flowers in bloom.
See the beauty of four seasons within your heart and in the divine creation of will.
As each season leads you to your highest self
and greatest purpose in life.

Martin Seligman author of ‘Authentic Happiness’ and research psychologist has said that there are three parts to
happiness : Pleasures, Engagement and Meaning.
Pleasure is the feel good part,
the short term happiness of material possessions in life.
Engagement refers to good life involving work,
friends, family and hobbies.
Meaning is using our time and strengths towards a larger purpose.
He reckons, that Although all the three are important ,
it is the last two which make a significant difference.
Now a lot of time we spend goes into increasing
or earning money. Hence it is worth figuring out where
money and hence financial freedom comes into play
in our overall happiness.
Does Higher Income really lead to Happiness though?
Is the million dollar question.
When researched , the results are surprising. ?
A study from Princeton University found that a larger
paycheck does lead to a happier life—
but only to a certain point. ($75,000 per annum to be precise)
What really affects our happiness more than
how much
we make is our attitude toward money and the way that we handle it.
When we hold fast to the belief

Heart Touching Stories : Lessons for Life…

A man was putting up family pictures on the newly painted
walls of his house. He was using nails and a hammer in order
to hang the picture frames. In the process, some nails
got bent and fell down on the floor.

The man’s 4 yr old daughter was playing near by.
She wanted to play with her dad and called out to him.
However the man was busy with framing the pictures,
and so ignored her calls and finally asked her to go outside and play with her brother. The girl saw the nails lying on the floor.
So she picked up a few nails and went out to play along
with her brother.

After a while the son came running in and told his dad ~
that the girl was scratching the newly purchased car
with the nails.

The man ran outside and in a fit of rage, the furious Man took his child’s hand & hit it many times,
not realizing he was using the hammer,
which was in his hand.
With blood all over her hands, the girl was rushed to a
nearby hospital.

The girl underwent an emergency operation. After a while,
When the child saw her father in the hospital,
with painful eyes she said : “Dad, I am so sorry, that I damaged your car “. With tears in her eyes, She continued looking at her hand and asked~ ‘Dad – When will I get back my fingers
I promise that I will never ever damage your car again’.

At the hospital, The child had lost all her fingers due
to multiple fractures.

The man was so hurt and speechless, that he couldn’t stop sobbing and crying for hours. The girl had lost her fingers forever,
because of his uncontrolled anger and stupid action.

He went back to the car and kicked it many times.
Devastated by his own actions, sitting in front of the car
he looked at the scratches, His daughter had written
‘LOVE YOU DAD’.

Moral: Don’t do something permanently stupid just because you are temporarily upset. If you are patient in one moment of anger ,
you will escape a hundred days of sorrow… Remember,
Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel
in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.
Anger and Love have no limit.

Always remember that “Things are to be used and people are to be loved”. But the problem in today’s world is that
“People are being used & Things are being loved”.
