Losing a loved one is hard. While social distancing, its brutal

I'm typing this with gloved hands and six feet of distance between myself and my hero.
I pause to read that sentence, and I cant hold back the tears or fight the persistent lump in my throat.
My grandfather is dying in hospice care. And I have never more appreciated the power of touch. Because its been stolen from us.

This pandemic has robbed us of final hugs, kisses, pats on the back, hand holding and shared meals across an intimate table.
I sweep away my tears with my clothed shoulder to avoid touching my face. It's become a routine now.
I don't know how to describe the pain of grieving such a deep loss while trying to practice social distancing. But I will try, in the hopes it will help people understand the importance of these health and safety measures, so we can all soon return to caring for and simply spending time with our loved ones without latex gloves, masks or physical barriers between us.

7 Negative Effects of Social Media on People and Users

If you can't imagine your life without social media, you've probably fallen victim to the power that social networking sites have on people. The chances are that you've also experienced some of the negative effects of social media on people who use them.

Unfortunately, the bad effects of social media are all too real for a lot of us. Let's look at the negative impact of social media on real people that happens every day.

How Social Media Is Bad for You
You might be surprised to learn that the negative effects of social media are both physical and mental. They can change your perception of the world and yourself

    1. Depression and Anxiety
Do you spend several hours per day browsing through social media? Spending too long on social networking sites could be adversely affecting your mood. In fact, chronic users are more likely to report poor mental health, including symptoms of anxiety and depression.

    2. Cyberbullying
Before social media, bullying was something that was only possible to do face-to-face. However, now people can bully others onlineأ¢â‚¬+anonymously or not. Today everyone knows what cyberbullying is, and most of us have seen what it can do to a person.

    3. ( FOMO Fear of Missing Out)
Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) is a phenomenon that was born around the same time as the rise of social media. Unsurprisingly, it;s one of the most widespread negative effects of social media on society.

    4. Unrealistic Expectations
As most people probably know by now, social media forms unrealistic expectations of life and friendships in our minds.

Most social media sites have a severe lack of online authenticity. People use Snapchat to share their exciting adventures, post about how much they love their significant other on Facebook, and load up their Instagram page with heavily staged photos.

    5. Negative Body Image
Speaking of Instagram celebrities, if you look at popular Instagram accounts, you'll find unbelievably beautiful people wearing expensive clothes on their perfectly shaped bodies.

Today, body image is an issue for everyone. Of course, seeing so many people who are supposedly perfect (according to society's standards) on a daily basis makes you conscious about how different you look from those pictures. And not everyone comes to healthy conclusions in this situation.

    6. Unhealthy Sleep Patterns
On top of increasing the incidents of anxiety and depression, spending too much time on social media can lead to poor sleep. Numerous studies have shown that increased use of social media has a negative effect on your sleep quality.

    7. General Addiction
Social media can be more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol. It has a powerful draw for many people that leads to them checking it all the time without even thinking about it.

If you're not sure whether you're addicted to social networks, try to remember the last time you went a full day without checking any social media accounts.

    The First Encounter

when Peter and Mary finally meet the Aboriginal boy

    A Strange Meeting

    .............................

“Mary!” Peter whispered. “I think there’s someone
    here!”
“Someone here! Where?” She turned round.
Only by snapping her teeth together did she
stop herself from screaming of fear. For there,
less than four feet away, so close that she could
have stretched out an arm and touched him,
was a boy. And he was ebony black and quite
    naked.
Mary’s first impulse was to grab Peter and run.
But as her eyes swept over the stranger, her fear
died slowly away. The boy was young – not older
than she was; he was unarmed, and his attitude
was more surprised than threatening. He wasn’t
like an African Negro. His skin was black, but
with a hint of bronze and almost silk-like. His
hair wasn’t crinkly but nearly straight, and his
eyes were blue-black, big, soft and inquiring.
In his hand was a dead baby wallaby. All this
Mary noticed and accepted. The thing that she
couldn’t accept was the fact that the boy was
    naked.
The three children stood looking at each other in
the middle of the Australian desert. Motionless,
they stared, and stared, and stared … Mary had
decided not to move. To move would be a sign of
weakness. She would stare at the boy until he felt
the shame of his nakedness and slunk away. Peter
stood waiting, clutching his sister’s hand. He was
    waiting for something to happen.
The Aboriginal was in no hurry. Time had little
value to him. He had his next meal – the wallaby.
Water was near. For the moment he was content to
examine these strange creatures. His eyes moved
slowly from one to another, examining them from
head to foot. They were the first white people a
member of his tribe had ever seen
