The end justifies the means
The end justifies the means, what ever is needed to be done to accomplish a goal is justified is the most common meaning of the phrase. For an example, if racial purity is to be obtained, then all mixed marriages must be made illegal, all mixed blood people must be killed, the end being racial purity, which is something being done today in some parts of the world.
Actually, the end never justifies the means. You are not justified in using illegal or immoral means even if the end result is good. It's like saying it is OK to murder a man because he is not a good husband and the family would be better off with his insurance money. The only way I could possibly agree with this policy would be killing in a war or in self defense--which then would not be illegal or immoralo means anyway.
In a criminal interrogation, the end justifies the means.
The best argument against that is that the ends should never justify the means. Every act should be self-justifiable, which means it should be performed ethically, truthfully, honestly, and fairly.
Police hold a special power over suspects in interrogations. They are currently allowed to use bad faith tactics such as lying, obfuscating, withholding counsel if not requested explicitly, etc. and that diminishes public confidence in police and law in general.
