The North Wind and the Sun argued with each other about which was the more powerful. They saw a man walking along a road and agreed that whichever of them could strip him of his clothes first would be deemed the strongest.
"I'll blow his clothes right off his back," the North Wind declared.
Gathering all of his strength around him in the shape of a fierce storm, he blew with all his might. But the more that he blew, the closer did the man pull his coat around him. The more the North Wind lashed around him, the tighter did the man hold onto his hat. Eventually, his strongest gusts having failed to strip the man of his coat, the North Wind gave up trying.
"Nice try," said the Sun. "Now watch a professional at work."
The Sun shone with all his majesty and the North Wind's storm clouds melted away. The sky turned blue and the air grew calm.
The man felt the warmth of the Sun's rays and immediately began to take off his coat. The Sun shone brighter still. As the air grew increasingly hot the man began to remove more of his clothing. Eventually, overcome with the heat, he undressed completely and jumped into a nearby stream to escape the scorching heat of the Sun.
The moral of this story is that persuasion is better than force.
