Thumbs up Infant Joy By William Blake

    Infant Joy
    by William Blake

    "I have no name:
I am but two days old."
    What shall I call thee?
    "I happy am,
    Joy is my name."
    Sweet joy befall thee!

    Pretty joy!
Sweet joy but two days old,
    Sweet joy I call thee:
    Thou dost smile,
    I sing the while,
    Sweet joy befall thee!

Infant Joy by William Blake Analysis:

I think the poem is about the love between a two day old baby and it’s mother I know the baby is two days old because in paragraph one it’s says “I am but two days old.” I think it is also about the mother trying to give her newborn a name as it says in paragraph one again “I have no name;” but two lines under that it says “what shall I call thee?” so I think it is about the mother trying to give the baby a name.
Throughout the poem it has a vibe of happiness and joy not just because it mentions the words happy and joy throughout it, it just has a very happy Feeling, vibe. In paragraph two it says “Joy is my name. Sweet Joy befall thee!” at this point in the poem I think the mother of the newborn baby finally names the baby Joy. I think the mother named the baby Joy because of the Joy and happiness between the mother and her baby and their new relationship together and the love they now share.
In the last paragraph it is just about the mother saying how sweet and pretty her baby is as it says “Pretty joy! Sweet joy, but two days old. Sweet Joy I call thee:” I also think it is an insight into the way some mothers feel when bonding with their infant.

    what a nice poem
I really enjoyed reading it sir
well,,the main theme of this poem is not that clear to me
But,, I think it is about the feelings of happiness and joy at the arrival of an innocent babe
    ;S
sir many thanks for sharing with us this lovely poem with the explaination
    May Allah reward you

    لأن
    ( الله ربي ) سأبحر في أُمنياتي ..
    سأزيدُ رغباتي !
    سَأطمع في دُعائي أكثر
    ..
    لأن الله رَبي !..
    سأطرُق البابَ وإن طال الفَتح
    `سأنطَرِحُ على الأعتاب
    وإن امتدّ الزمان ،
    فحتماً ولابُد ;
    سأبكي فرحاً يوماً من دَهشتي بالعطاء
