Some problems you may faced in translation
1- engrossing effect of source text patterning
some collocations may found in language but you can't found it in another labguage
for example
when you want to translate from in English to Arabic
such as the collocation " Brake the law "
when you want to tranlate this collcocation into Arabic you can't say
" يكسر القانوون "
but in Arabic the collocation is " contradict the law "
بمعنى " يخرق القانون
2- Misinterpreting the meaning of a source language collocation
the translator may misinterpret collocation in the source text due to interference from his native language
this problem happen when the source language collocations appears to be familiar .
for example :
" The industrialist saw in him a person who appearance suggests modesty and simplicity "
in Arabic
"وقد رأى فيه رجل الصناعة شخصاً ينم مظهره من التواضع والبساطه "
The collocation modest means lack of affluence in English
modest in Arabic means " دخل متواضع "
modest and modesty used in connection with a person usually mean that he is unassuming
3- The tension between accuracy and naturalness
The translator ideally aims at produsing a collocation which is typical in the target language , at the same time
he try to keep the meaning associated with the source collocation
for example
a good/bad law in English is typicallly a just/unjust in Arabic
the significance of this difference in meaning is depends on whether the issue of " justice " is in focus in a given
text and whether the context favours avoiding explicit reference to justice
4- Culture-specific collocations
Some collocations reflect the cultural setting in which they occur
and this is one of the problem you may faced
for example
some common collocates of hair in English " damaged , brittle "
these two collocations have no close collocations in Arabic
in Arabic we find that damaged means split-ends
5- Marked collocations in the source text
Unusaual combinations of words are sometimes used in the source text to creat a new meaning .
The translation of a marked collocation will be simillarly marked in the target language.
for example
when we want to translate this
Canda has chosen to ' entrench ' its dual cultural heritage in its institutions and , as a result , official translation has
taken firm root.
the back translation will be like that
Canada has chosen to ' insert ' - the word is alas in fashion
in the target text , the marked collocation is further highlighted by means of an interjection from the translator
( the word alas in fashion ).

Target language = the language that you translate to
