High School Vs. College
Compare and
Contrast High School versus College
A good education is an important part of one’s life. To achieve a good education, one should attend both high school and college. Although some people think high school has a lot in common with college, I find them to be very different. After watching my older siblings graduate from high school and enroll into college I noticed that there are many differences between them. A few of these differences include the attitude and responsibilities of the teachers and students and the amount of work given to the students.
To begin with, there are many ways in which the attitudes of the teachers in high school differ from the attitudes of the teachers in college. In high school teachers seem to be strict and have more rules for the students to follow. The teachers were also responsible for making sure each student obeyed these rules to the fullest extent and carried out disciplinary actions for those who did not obey them. One example in which a teacher has taken on a disciplinary action was when a student was tardy or skipped their scheduled class, the students usually receive detention. Although attendance is also required in college and many enforce it, some teachers do not. At college there are teachers who feel it is the student’s responsibility to come to class. If a student chooses to skip that class, the teacher rarely says anything to the student but the student usually gets an "F" for the day in which they skipped. Some college teachers believe the students should be mature enough to make their own decision on whether to attend class or not and leave it to them to make that decision. While in high school I also noticed teachers had strict rules to obey given to them by a higher authority. These rules include no eating or drinking in class and sometimes no chewing gum. However, in college students are allowed to chew gum and teachers often allow the students to bring snacks or drinks into the classroom.

The Mind Vs Computers
The human brain is responsible for thought, feelings, creativity, and other qualities that make us human. The human brain is more complex and more complete than any computer. If the brain created the computer, the computer cannot possibly be more complex than the brain. Many say the computer will one day be more powerful than the human brain. In the past few decades, we have seen how computers are becoming more and more advanced, challenging the abilities of the human brain. We have seen computers doing complex assignments like programming satellites or sending and receiving information from outer space.
There are many differences between the human brain and the computer, for example, the capacity to learn new things. The most advanced computer can never learn the way a human does. While we might be able to install new information onto a computer, it can never learn new material by itself. All computers are limited to what they can do depending on the memory left or space in the hard drive. This is completely different than the human brain which is constantly learning new things every day. One of the most important aspects of human beings is emotions. Emotions can only be transmitted by the human brain and cannot be programmed into a computer.
A computer uses switches that turn the machine either on or off. The brain uses chemicals to transmit information. The computer uses electricity. Neurons in the brain are either on or off by firing action potential or not firing an action potential. Computers cannot make judgments or disagree with new material. Computers must accept into their memory what is being programmed into them. Everything that is found in a computer is based on what the human brain has stored already in its memory. The human brain has maintained its size over the centuries, weighing three pounds. Computers have evolved quickly over the past few decades decreasing in size and becoming faster.
